Learning to LOVE Yourself……part two of six

Today’s blog follows from the previous blog about learning to love yourself. I suggested that we can learn to love ourselves by choosing to love ourselves by meeting our needs. A 3 step formula for learning to love yourself is:

1. Identify your needs

2. Become aware of how these needs could be met

3. Take the action identified in number one.

There are five areas of need that one can look at.

These five are

Emotional, Intellectual, Physical, Spiritual, and Social. (f you write to me, I will send you a worksheet on this; just email me at equinelites@aol.com)

There are other categories that you might think of but these cover most areas.

Today I am going to focus on Spiritual. This does not need to be religious. It might be. However, the Spiritual Needs refer to connecting to a higher power, however you would see this higher Power AND, it also refers to connect to your own authentic, true, real self. Some may call this their Divine Self.

A question you can ask yourself to connect with your authentic self is this:  “What would I do if nothing were standing in my way?” If you truly listen to the answer to this question, you may be surprised. The first time  I ever heard this question was when Alan Cohen, the internationally famous author and lecturer led a workshop that I was attending. He led us in a meditation as he asked the question.

As he asked the question and had us listen for the answer, I went through several possible answers: Get my PhD, move to Colorado, etc, etc,

then I heard the following:  “Have your son, Christopher”. Now I knew that if, that is IF, I ever had a child, it would be a boy and I would name him Christopher, AND, I was not going to have children. But, I knew if did have children, it would be my son.

So, back to the meditation, Alan, was leading us in. When I heard this answer, I began, sobbing with tears of JOY. I did not care who heard me.

I knew that this would be the next step on my spiritual path.

Long story short, I listened and my precious and amazing son is 25 and on his way to becoming a world famous musician.

For today, take the next 24 hours to consider What you would do if nothing were standing in your way………….It could change your life.
