ALL THAT IS ASKED OF YOU: BE WHO YOU ARE………..

ALL THAT IS ASKED OF YOU:

BE WHO YOU ARE

There is an amazing curiosity behind the magnetic appeal that Donald Trump is having upon a large number of people in the Republican party. Some believe it is because he is a Washington outsider. Others believe that he speaks the truth in a way that other politicians do not. Other people are literally entranced by his success in business and they erroneously believe that if he can be so successful in his own business, then “of course”, he would be able to do this for the country. But inside this thought:  “if he could do it for the country……….”, these people secretly believe that he could do it for them.

Herein lies the fallacy behind this thought. They are looking for someone to “do it for them”. This is in sharp contrast to what President Obama said in his state of the union message when he said, “I did not say, Yes, I can; I said yes we can”.

However this message is not about President Obama or Trump, it is about, the dangerous attraction that people have for someone who claims that they can “do it for them”.

Mark Nepo, in his book, The BOOK of AWAKENING, tells us on page 11:

“We are born with only one obligation-to be completely who we are.”

Then from the top of page 12:

“Being human, though, we are often troubled and blocked by insecurity, that windedness of heart that makes us feel unworthy. And when winded and troubled, we sometimes feel compelled to puff ourselves up. For in our pain, it seems to make sense that if we were larger, we would be further from our pain. If we were larger, we would be harder to miss. If we were larger, we’d have a better chance of being loved. Then, not surprisingly, others need to be made smaller so we can maintain our illusion of seeming bigger than our pain.”

I believe the mystery behind Trump’s appeal is that those who are attracted to him secretly wish they could be like him. They erroneously believe that he has the answer to their pain, their frustration, their fear and panic. They erroneously believe that the solution to one’s problems is to make oneself “big, or better than the other”. They erroneously believe that if Trump becomes the leader of this country, then he will get rid of all of those people who are “less than, those people who simply do not belong here”.

This is dangerous thinking. This type of thinking has led to wars, has led to countless executions and murders. It is uniquely human.

This led to the death of Jesus, for the people at the time, thought that Jesus would come in and kill the powers that be and give the kingdom back to them.

And, if someone who was as wise and powerful as Jesus knew this would never work, then how can humans still believe that this would work for them. The answer is that humans are afraid to be in touch with and embrace their own vulnerability, their own woundedness. They think that there must be an easier way then to feel vulnerable by feeling their own pain. Then along comes the arrogant person “du jour”, who is Trump at this time, and they consume his words and falsely believe that his way is “ The way”, out of the challenges our country is facing.

At some level, though, deep within the heart and soul of all of creation, we know that Trump’s method of making oneself better than others( so we don’t have to feel our pain), will never, ever work.

Many great spiritual leaders have told us this.

Jesus said it like this:

“Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Jesus also said this:

“Love God …………..and love your neighbor as yourself”.

These 2 teachings of Jesus provide us with the only real and lasting solution to the problems we are facing.

First, we must seek the kingdom of Heaven, and he taught the Kingdom is within each one of us. It is the place of wholeness and oneness that is within each one of us. There is this place in the consciousness within every human and the fruit of being connected to this place within is:

*Pure guiding light that will enable each of us to know what to do

*Perfect love that unites us all

*Re-vitalizing life that enables us to be restored to wholeness

As we connect with this place of wholeness within, we automatically know how to love God. I don’t need to say how one loves God; this is a personal matter ………as one becomes willing to love God, they know how …………….and then the 2nd part of Jesus’ precept: to Love our neighbor as ourselves not only becomes do-able, it becomes a way of life.

We do know how to love our neighbor as ourselves. It may not seem easy; it may not be the first thought we have about people we disagree with, but we do know how. We humans have advanced enough to know that “loving our neighbor”, is not only right thing to do, but it is the only way we will survive. As I have said, the “lizard brain”, is all about survival (think fear, flight and freeze), but our “wizard brain”–a fun way of talking about our neo-cortex) — tells us we must learn to work together.

The Wizard brain tells us that we can solve the problems we are facing IF we come to the table with a willingness to speak our truth in love without attack.

I have created a method called, “Global Harmony”, which I will talk about in my blog on Martin Luther King Jr. day.
